in response to Brian**...I was pleased to read your information and I am hoping you can help. I've recently had a tragedy in my family and have fallen behind on all my bills due to illness and inability to work. I'm praying for a miracle.
Hi. I am a disabled veteran and it has been a hard year this year. I lost my car, I am losing my home and I have no extra money for christmas presents for my 8 year old daughter or a christmas meal. ANY help would be appreciated. I am currently fighting for my disability pay ( I am 100% disabled) but it has been an ongoing fight. I dont care about my needs for the holidays, I only want for my daughter. She is 8. She is in need of some shoes (size 4 1/2-5) and whatever small toy anyone can donate. She is not picky and will play with everything. I just want her to have the christmas she deserves. Thank you.
My husband is a combat veteran, honorably discharged this past March after 6 1/2 years active duty Army, and three year long Iraq deployments in that time. We have two young sons, 8 and 4. He was laid off of his job Nov 9th, and immediately got hired as an overnight stocker at Walmart, but the night before he was to start his new job, he totaled his motorcycle, broke his ankle, and dislocated his knee. Will need several surgeries. I just applied for medicaid, food stamps and a (VERY) small check, $260 a month, but it might be a month before I get an answer. Our car was repossessed in July. Without a car I can't do the work seeking that DSS requires. I paid $14 to get there today, we can't afford to do that three times a week. They told me they don't have any exceptions for people with no transportation. Our rent is $360 behind. We may actually be evicted just in time for Christmas. The VA has been of no help. If anyone knows where we might get rent assistance or electric/utility assistance, please let me know. Our lights are to be off Tuesday the 6th, and cable/net/phone the following Friday, though by then it won't really matter. THANK YOU!
in response to raymichelle2825...So you got all of those electronics given to you free from the va through voc-rehab? I applied last night for voc-rehab, and I fit all the criteria for approval. What do I need to do to get the laptop, ipad and the extra money? Do they also pay for pre med school, and med school? Thanks!
My name is Brian, please forward me the information for distance ed. I am trying to go to school online for my PhD in mental health administration and I am looking for a grant or something. I am 90% disabled veteran and a federal employee, if you know of anywhere that I can get assistance, please feel free to contact me at briankh1960@yahoo.com.
in response to BORICUA1959...No, its not the same.
The difference is rate of pay & other benefits such as you get dental if you are 100%. Your children & spouse can get educational benefits if you are 100%.

My husband is a veteran taking advantage of his schooling, I was a full-time nanny, I was let go. We have a 7 month old and are stressing about what is to come. If you could help us, please do! With the new Gi bills being rid of interval pay, we have been struggling! I know there are many people who need help nowadays. I also need help with Christmas, this is my son's first Christmas and it kills me know we can't give our family a decent celebration. We need a miracle, I have applied for job after job, I even went to dental school and can't find a job! Please help my family! My car broke down, and my husbands car has over two hundred thousand miles on it and is ready to give up. With doctors visits, and more we can't afford to not have a vehicle. I've been in this situation before after losing my home in Katrina, and I will do anything to make sure my son will not lose his! He deserves stability! I just need some help to get back on my feet!

in response to essksr21403...Hi. I'm having the same issues with my disabilty. I need to work at home, but there are sure a shortage of those jobs around. I've been looking for 2 years.I don't qualifly for SSI. The only thing I have been looking into is Disabilty grants. There are many for disabled vets. Go to www.grants.gov or www.accessible.org for info on that. For general SSDI, go to www. SSA.gov. That should take you to the Social Security website. All take time, but are worth the trouble. Good luck.
in response to graphxdave...Dave,
Go to the VFW of Disabled American Veterans they will serve as your service office, and they will be the best choice to get things through quickly. I hope it all works out for you! If you need anymore advice or help, use my direct e-mail, navy_girl529@yahoo.com

in response to graphxdave...Hi, sorry I didn't get back sooner, my wife had major surgery. Anyway, I do get a NSC pension, but I'm trying for the service-connected because I have most of the symptoms of Gulf War Syndrome and PTSD. So if I get that it could be a lot of back-pay and a lot more money. Well, I have contacted anybody yet, but I will try the USO and red cross. Good luck to you too!
Hello, and thank you to those who are going out of their way to help veterans. I am a veteran who just got out of the Navy in Nov of 2010. I served 9 years of active duty in support of Iraqi Freedom before being medically and honorably discharged. I am no hero, but I am proud to have served. I am married and I have four beautiful children. I am employed, and I work very hard, but recently a medical condition with my heart has caused me to miss some work. I tried going back to my night shift mechanic job, but they sent me home because a doctor will not release me for work yet. I have never been on welfare, and I don't want to be. I simply am falling short on some bills because of the time I am missing from work do to my heart. If you have a spare dollar you could send I would greatly appreciate it. I will give my address, and if you do feel comfortable sending even a dollar it is really needed. Once i get back on my feet I help anyone else on this site. Thank you. - Vet in need

The V.A. will only help you once. They will than tell you that you are on your own. It's a really bad feeling for US. We trust in the V.A. , Jag and the Army. But, they won't help you anymore.
in response to mrverseetile...How do you file a claim for unemployability? I am 80% through the VA, my husband is 100%. I am unable to work because of his disability and mine. What do I do?
in response to jerrync6407...I don't know if it helps, but maybe the USO or red cross could help? I was just told that and haven't contacted them yet, just happened to see your post and it reminds me that things could be worse. I too have health problems and kids but I got a VA pension that helps some. Are you eligible? Have you talked your VSO or patient advocate? Something has to be done for you!! I will see what I can come across and get back to you soon. God bless, Dave
in response to ...Hi Robert, what programs or organizations have you tried so far? schmidty has a great page of links if that helps. someone also suggested Red Cross and USO if that helps at all. What did your VSO say? I wish I had more to offer, but I will try to help any way possible. Your a vet and deserve better!!!
God bless, dave
in response to bear1972...Tim, have you tried Schmidty's page. He has a lot of links for transportation. If not maybe look around the site some and see if there are other links on home pages. If not, I will try to let you know if I find one that works. I'm looking too so I want to help anyone I can in the same boat! Best of luck on the job, but we need to get you a car, truck or something to get you there!! God bless and let's hope for the best! Sincerely, Dave
in response to whitefeather...As a desert storm vet too I hear you. Can you tell me what you have done so far to try and get help and then I can maybe provide some resources for you? Have you tried the local veteran's service officer and gotten medical help from VA? If so also try local government, state and fed programs. I will get back to you after I learn what you have tried so far. I wish you best of luck and god bless, my friend and brother-in-arms!
in response to lost and need help...Thank you for your service and I will see what I can do. Have you contacted your local Veteran's service officer? This would be my first stop. Tell me what you have tried and then I can go from there because I've been there since 1996 as a Desert Storm vet with 6 years in the Navy. I almost lost it a few times trying to deal with the VA and other programs, but I had to learn that help doesn't always come overnight even though it should for you after what you've done and seen for our freedom! I will try to help as much as I can brother. God bless and hang in there. I'm here for anything. Email me anytime at rockstarinart@gmail.com
in response to wolfpac1...I'm not sure about what's available in PR, but I would imagaine as a part of the states you should be eligible for some of the same benefits as those of us in the USA. What have you tried to look at as far as programs to help? Schmidty's page has been helpful to me, but I will try to see what's available in your area. Just keep searching your local and federal resources and hopefully you can come up with something. You probably need a car to get to work and get your essentials to live if you don't have them within walking distance, but hang in there and somethings should turn up. I'm in the same boat. God bless and good luck, if I find anything I'll let you know. I also have a friend who is an international law attorney, I will ask him what he thinks. Take care my friend!
in response to dani dee...I would suggest any local, state or fed programs you can think of. Try schmidty's page. He has a goldmine of links to programs. Or try to get down to the courthouse and see what they have if you haven't already. This just SHOULD not happen! I hope the best for you and if I come across any programs that might help soon I will certainly let you know! God bless you and your folks. I will pray for you all. God bless.
in response to kita02...My lord, I have heard this same story from so many folks these days. It's like the depression all over again! I wish I could just win the lottery and give all the money to those in need! Try everything you can as I'm sure you have to try and find a local or state or federal program listed on this schmidty's page. He has a lot of links. I know it's not easy, but I pray you find help soon. If I come across anything at all to help I will let you know! God bless you and your family and try to keep your spirits up if you can!
in response to reecee'smom...well, right now I'm not to the appeal process. They said I need another physical to prove GWS so I'm hoping that it might be a good sign because if you look in the fed benefits book it has the symptoms of it and I have most of them, but if it is denied I will appeal to the board. Thank You so much and god bless. I'm keeping my chin up!
in response to kid85...Hi, I will see what I can do. Have you tried any of the resources listed on schmidty's page? he has a goldmine of info on where to go or who to contact. I know it all takes time which is something you don't have, but I would love to help you any way I could. Do you have any type of programs in your area? Usually you can go to your local courthouse and they have programs for this? If not maybe try local charities or organizations? I guess we are all just grasping at straws but I will pray that you find help soon. If you have any more questions I'm here! Don't hesitate to ask. God bless and good luck! You will get through this I just know it! Keep your chin up and it will work out. Maybe not overnight, but god will provide.(and me too if I can.) Also, if I come across anything that I think will help I will let you know! Take care my friend.
in response to graphxdave...Hi, Sorry I didn't get back sooner, had a bad few days there. Well, I sure do appreciate the kind words and I will pray for you too! God bless and thank you!
in response to kita02...I will pray for you and hope you work this out. I'm just another vet looking for help, but I've been there. Stay strong and I really hope someone can help!
I am a vet and my car broke down this week. My wife, my daughter and myself live in a one-bedroom apt. and we are living off of my VA pension. We don't have enough money to buy a car, but we did manage to save about $200, the problem is my daughter needs school clothes, my two sons are in the county jail and want money and clothes etc.. and it has been one hell of a week! Are there any programs for helping us get a car?
in response to CATLUV...He's getting SSDI. I just helped them apply for food assistance. There's a program here called LIHEAP that helps pay utilities but our parish is out of funds until September. :( So my dad could get Medicare & Medicaid?
